Adam has been traveling to China/Hong Kong/England/Spain/France/Belgium/Brazil/Chile basically since Christmas and has consequently earned quite a bit of airline mileage. So, after his four-week stint in China was over back in March, we decided to use some of those miles and meet up somewhere "in the middle" during my spring break from school.
And where else to meet up besides Sydney?
Since my phone wouldn't work internationally and there would be no way to call each other once we landed separately (Adam flying from Hong Kong and me flying from Dallas), we planned to meet by the Hertz car rental place in the Sydney airport. Luckily our plan worked, and we were able to find each other with no problem!
We spent 4.5 days exploring and absolutely fell in love with this city. It's the perfect mix of a beach, harbor, Europe, and of course Australia all in one. Here are some of the highlights:
I had my 18-week doctor's appointment the day before I flew out and didn't want to find out if we were having a boy or a girl without Adam there, so I asked the sonographer to write it down and stick it in an envelope so that we could open it together once we saw each other in Australia. And no, I didn't peek on the flight over. So, this was the biggest highlight of our trip and the first thing we did after we dropped our stuff off at the hotel and walked to Sydney Harbour:

One day, we took a tour of the opera house. Here are some shots from inside:
Another day, we walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to grab some lunch and get a different view of the harbor. This city is seriously so beautiful.
On our last full day, we took a ferry to Manly Beach and spent the whole day there. We snorkeled, relaxed and read on the beach, played in the waves, walked along the sand, and got some gelato before taking the ferry back. We didn't want our camera or Adam's phone to get stolen while we were snorkeling, so we don't have pictures, but it was the perfect day. We didn't even know what time it was until sitting down for lunch at a cafe on the beach and finding out it was 3 p.m.! It was a great way to end our time in Sydney.
Having Adam travel and sometimes gone for weeks at a time is hard, but we feel blessed, spoiled, and lucky when it allows us to do things like go on this trip and create awesome memories together as a couple. Next up...Melbourne.
